A brief history

The Family Local aims to be a complete and comprehensive free telephone listings magazine. This handy A5 size colour magazine will include contact details ranging from, help lines, support groups, local schools, and toddlers groups. These will all relate specifically to the family, ranging from conception to 18 years.

This all came about quite by chance. As we started to look for ways to bring in some extra income, but needing to bear in mind it had to fit around my part time job and the family. Then in October Sean got made redundant from his IT job so suddenly we were looking for something that could substitute our main income, rather than some extra money. With it not being the best time to be looking for a job, we decided to make a go of working together from home, something we had always wanted to do.

So after a lot of searching for the right opportunity we settled on the idea of using already gained skills and the learning of new ones to set up our own magazine.

We, as a family ourselves, with two young children and who have lived in the Purbecks all our lives felt that there was a real need for all that invaluable information, that is actually out there, to be collated and produced in one central place. After talking to friends and family who felt the same way we decided to take the plunge.

We have become quite passionate about this magazine and feel it will be of great benefit to the local community, so with that in mind we would ask that you think of The Family Local when you need information or a service and let the advertisers know just where you found their details. This will insure the future running of the magazine and hopefully allow us to grow it into a very in-depth and comprehensive resource.

Many hours have been spent collating information and numbers, but I am sure there are plenty more out there, so if you know of a local activity or group, of any kind then please give us a ring and let us know. Equally if you would like to advertise with us and reach thousands of readers than take a look at our Rate Card.

Happy reading
